Free Rein is a non-profit organization in Spokane, Washington dedicated to providing health, hope, and happiness for children and adults with special needs through equine-assisted services. We serve children 4+ with physical, developmental or intellectual disabilities; autism spectrum disorders; emotional or behaviorial challenges; neurological conditions; and mental health needs such as anxiety or depression. Equine-assisted services uniquely address essential physical, emotional, and social needs with outdoor, accessible recreational and therapeutic experiences for individuals with emotional or physical disabilities. For many of our participants, traditional recreational and therapeutic options are limited or inaccessible. Working with horses fosters emotional regulation, confidence, and social connection in a non-judgmental, outdoor environment. The relationship between participant and horse promotes trust, focus, and self-efficacy, while shared experiences build community and reduce isolation.

We offer spring, summer, fall and winter sessions. Our summer session runs from June 22 through August 21. Classes are 30-60 minutes, once per week. We offer morning or afternoon classes. No prior horse experience is required!

Scholarships are available.
