Activity Details

Chess camp is designed to help players of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced players, improve their skills and develop a love for the game. Each day will be packed with engaging activities, including interactive lessons, practice games, and fun tournaments.

In many ways, soccer is like a chess game in motion. Two opponents face off, each with players in defined positions and try to maneuver over the playing field to capture the king, or in the case of soccer to put the ball into the opponents goal. Just like chess, soccer is comprised of move, counter move — attack, defend — bait, trap — deceive — maneuver, adjust, and so on.

Players like Mohamed Salah, Christian Pulisic and Dani Olmo use chess to sharpen their cognitive skills. Salah describes how the game improves his concentration and problem-solving skills. Pulisic sees chess as a way to “keep your mind sharp” and recognize patterns faster and Olmo emphasizes the importance of “thinking about every move” on the pitch, which helps him find the best solutions – with and without the ball.
