Spokane Civic Theatre, founded in 1947, is an award-winning nonprofit community theatre and a cultural beacon in the Inland Northwest. Each year, Civic presents 15 – 20 plays, musicals and other live events in addition to innumerable performing arts classes, predominantly for the youth of the community.
For decades, Civic has been a creative haven for some and a source of community and entertainment for others. To date, Civic has mounted more than 800 productions; has represented the Lilac City at local, national and international festivals and has fostered throngs of artists, entertainment professionals and educators.
For more than 35 years, education has been an integral part of Spokane Civic Theatre’s identity. Civic is a place where artists, audiences, students, educators, and community members connect through the power of storytelling.
Education programs at Spokane Civic Theatre provide opportunities to receive comprehensive, high-quality theatrical education experiences through classes and workshops, led by well-qualified theater artists. In line with our Mission statement, Civic Education is an outlet “to foster an enduring love for live theater,” regardless of experience or means.
In classes, workshops, events, discussions, and other programs, students of all ages and skill levels explore the fundamentals and magic of theatre while developing communication skills, confidence, imagination, problem-solving techniques, self-discipline, and team spirit.
