Bikes Are the Answer (BATA) is a 501(c)3 organization based in Spokane which has developed and oversees instructional cycling programs for kids in grades 2nd through 12th (and beyond). BATA has developed instructional framework to both teach, and empower kids to thrive through cycling recreationally and competitively. The Spokane area based competitive cross country mountain bike teams have for years been extremely competitive in the state and region, largely due to the engagement of the growing community of parents, coaches and volunteers coordinated through BATA. Competition in the WSCL (Washington Student Cycling League) and NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) programs provides interested kids in a supportive and challenging opportunity to grow confidence, skill and strength while doing so in a family friendly and team oriented environment. Riders between 2nd and 5th grades enroll in our recreational Rippers program. Riders in grades 6 through 12 can opt into a race team, or ride with the teams through the non competitive BATA Devo program. All practices break into groups based on skill and fitness. We make room for all interested riders. Spokane has amazing access to trails and trail systems, unparalleled in the Inland Northwest. BATA programs provide safe, structured learning to build skill and confidence on a bike along with friends and family.
