Dr. Jean M. Twenge is one of the leading voices on generational theory and the impact of social media on children. A professor of Psychology at San Diego State University and author of more than 180 scientific publications and books, Twenge has educated and written about a wide range of topics, from teen technology use and mental health to understanding how generations operate in the workplace.
According to Twenge, teen depression rates doubled between 2011 and 2021. Gen Z, the first generation to spend their adolescence with smart phones, is reportedly growing up more slowly, taking longer to engage in independent activities, sleeping less and spending less time in-person with their friends compared to previous generations. As a result, Twenge suggests, they are more likely to struggle with unhappiness, anxiety, and depression.
LaunchNW has invited Dr. Twenge as a featured speaker at two exciting events for families and community leaders respectively. LaunchNW invites you to join us this March for impactful conversations as we dive headfirst into the challenges facing the next generation and how we can overcome them as a community.
