Introduce us to Spokane Youth Cheer and what makes your organization unique:

Spokane Youth Cheer is Spokane’s #1 recreational sideline youth cheerleading program. We are dedicated to developing confident athletes through foundational training in stunting, tumbling, game day crowd-leading, and performance cheer. We focus on building strong fundamentals, confidence, and preparing athletes for middle school and high school cheer teams. We offer a supportive, high-energy environment where athletes can grow, compete, and thrive, season after season.

In 2–3 sentences, give us an elevator pitch for Recreational Cheer:

If you’re looking for more than “just an activity”, cheer is a fun but challenging team sport, a place for personal skill development and a place to belong all in one. We teach real cheerleading skills, but also confidence, leadership, and teamwork in a positive environment where athletes are encouraged to work hard, have fun, and grow both on and off the field. By the end of the season, they’ll leave with new skills, stronger character, and a whole squad of friends cheering beside them.

If you had to describe Recreational Cheer in 3–4 words, what would they be?

Fun. Teamwork. Confidence. Community.

What can participants expect from a typical cheer practice?

A typical practice includes warm-up; strengthening and conditioning exercises; team bonding activities and games; a review of game day material (such as dances, cheers, etc.); tumbling and stunting practice; and choreography for the competition routine.

What skills or experiences do you want kids to walk away with after a cheer season?

Spokane Youth Cheer is where kids build confidence, friendships, and athletic skills all at the same time. We combine the fun and excitement of cheer with the life lessons of teamwork, discipline, and leadership—giving every athlete a place to shine, whether they’re brand new to cheer or have years of experience.

Spokane Youth Cheer is looking for Volunteer Youth Cheer Coaches for the 2026 season. Prior experience in youth sports coaching, teaching, physical education, or working with children is highly desirable and background in cheerleading, dance, or gymnastics a plus. But, we are mostly looking for dedicated volunteers who just like hanging out with kids and are passionate about shaping them into confident, capable young athletes while strengthening the broader community through sport, mentorship, and shared purpose.

We provide pre-season training (even cheer-specific training), so don’t be intimidated. We are an entirely parent-volunteer-run organization. Most of us started as “just parents” and coaching has turned into a rewarding and fun experience for us. We have formed a community of volunteer coaches who help and support each other. Apply to coach here or email [email protected] with questions.
